Promoting Excellence in Philadelphia Schools

Building a Brighter Future

TAP™: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement

In a collaborative, forward-looking approach to education, the School District of Philadelphia has adopted Philly TAP, a customized initiative modeled on TAP: The System for Teacher and Student Advancement, a proven system developed by The National Institute for Excellence in Teaching.

A bold, new strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates talented teachers, TAP embraces teacher ambitions by providing frequent professional development opportunities for more effective classroom instruction.

Implemented in 11 charter schools in the school district, Philly TAP is enabled by a Teacher Incentive Fund grant initiative.

Since teacher quality is the single most important school-related factor for student achievement, the improved teacher performance facilitated by the TAP system means dramatic increases in student academic growth. And that means a brighter future for Philadelphia's children.

TAP Goals:

  1. Increase student achievement by helping teachers and administrators enhance their professional skills
  2. Make teaching a more attractive and rewarding career choice
